Mission Statement

The mission of Graduate Medical Education (GME) at the University of Iowa Health Care is to foster an environment of excellence in medical education, clinical care, and research. We are committed to:

• Developing educational leaders and structures to educate the next generation of physicians and healthcare providers through innovative, evidence-based training programs that emphasize patientcentered care, interprofessional collaboration, and lifelong learning

• Advancing medical knowledge through integration of cutting-edge research with high quality, safe clinical practice, and mentoring and empowering our residents and fellows to contribute to the scientific community and improve patient outcomes and safety

• Promoting collaboration and inclusion within our learning community, ensuring that all trainees feel valued and supported, and are prepared to advocate for and serve diverse patient populations

• Providing high quality, compassionate care and addressing the healthcare, recruitment, and retention needs of the State of Iowa and our local, regional, and national communities
